What would you like to see your community to do to help on the topic of racism?
Educate ourselves.Talk openly with children about racism. Expose people to other cultures.
What exactly does the Black Lives Matter Movement mean to you?
Evolution of thinking. to stop all racial violence against black people ( physically and mentally).
How is life different for you as a person of color?
As a person of color, I always have to worry about what others will think about me.
Why do you think that racism is an uncomfortable topic for some people?
Because some people don’t feel comfortable or don't think it’s okay to be different.
When you experience racism whether it is slurs, microaggressions, discrimination, treated differently… is it more by your peers or adults like teachers, coach and admin?
In middle school, it was the most time I’ve ever experienced racism by my peers.
How does racism affect your education/ ability to work on a daily basis ?
When I first moved to America, I lost my confidence a lot answering questions because of how people would make fun of my English.
How has racism affected your family over time ?
racism affected my family by urging us to interact with others.
How do you feel about having to educate your non black friends constantly ? Should school and the education system do more to make kids more aware of the harm of their actions and words.
I think that school should do more by showing the reality of other cultures/traditions life (not just talk about it or read from a textbook but actually show the real life of people of color) and do the same thing for educating our non black people friends.
